Hi,
I am a good midfielder, i got a trial with Bristol Rovers in Easter, but i need a bit of advice to improve. For starters when i try and support, i can’t seem to get into a good position to get the ball of the holding strikers, i also make a few runs to try and get one-on-one with the keeper, but no-one can find me. But as a midfield, i’m not supposed to try and score goals i’m supposed to support the defence and attack, like pass the ball out wide, give long balls to the strikers etc, but how does Gerrard and Lampard get so many goals scored, and normally you may see Lampard go one-on-one?? With my position, i’m more like an Alex Song or Lassana Diarra type of player, like i’m not a free-form midfield, i keep my position and support others when needed. It would be great if you could give me some more advice/tips to improve my game, and 10 points for the best answer!

Thanks – Adam

i am not good at in midfield as a midfielder,ok

  • Coach Mike says:

If your responsibility is supporting the attack and not scoring, then you have to settle for that. Be excited about assists and team success, not how many goals you score. I’d rather coach a guy who’ll give up the ball and focus on brilliant passing then a guy who shoots 10 times a game.

When you support an attack, pass and move immediately. Call for the ball, wave your hand, and continuously move forward. Once the other players pass, hold the ball and see who’s available. It’s a thing you learn by keeping your head up and watching players move when you don’t have the ball. You’re learn where they’re going.

Don’t score. Pass the ball. YOur teammates will love you for it.
