I’m new(ish) to playing football, I just finished my first season a few weeks ago. Well I have had real trouble kicking the ball the right way. I can hit balls only a tiny bit in the air right down the field (I played right back so I got those a lot) but my ground shots and shooting was horrible. I got one goal though playing winger but that was only a pass into the net off a loose ball. Well is this technique right? There are so many different ones I don’t know. I run at the ball on an angle, toes pointed down and hit it with my instep, going through the ball. It makes a pretty powerful shot (well maybe not but once I get used to the technique it should get better), a bit of backspin and not much height although I’m thinking with more power will come beautiful top corner goals. Is that technique right? What should I change? And the next one is almost the same shot but instead of pointing my foot mostly down I put it sideways more, almost like an inside foot shot but I lean a lot more to the side so it hits my instep. It gets a higher shot. Is what I’m doing right? Which one is better? And what kind of shot/technique can I use for a long free kick/clearance/pass/corner? Thanks.
Also is it worth buying something like ‘Blast The Ball’ to see the proper technique?

Your technique sounds very textbook which is a good thing. Keep practicing what you are doing. But try to make adjustments that will make you more comfortable with your shot. Not everybody kicks the ball the same way.
