3 Responses to “can anyone tell me what happens in a soccer game as a referee?”

  • __ShoTTa__ says:

The referee decides if it is an free kick if the goalie is injured the opposition could either score or show there sportmanship by stopping the game an indirect free kick is caused by a back pass if the defender passes to the goalie with his feet. when it is taken you cant shoot straught away the ball has to be touched first by an teammate e.g knocked forward

  • John F says:

If any player is injured without a foul being committed, the referee decides whether play is to be stopped. The laws state that play continues until a normal break in play if the injury is deemed by the referee to be “slight”. The referee must stop play if he thinks it is “serious”. HOWEVER, exceptions are made in some circumstances, and an injury to a goalkeeper is one of these. I imagine that most referees would stop play, given that this creates an unusually big advantage to an attacking team. If the referee does not stop play, then the attacking team is able to score.

On the other hand, it is generally expected that when an injury occurs, the opposing team will demonstrate sportsmanship by intentionally kicking the ball dead. A situation occurred in the EPL (Blackburn v. Wigan?) this past weekend when a defender went down, and play was allowed to continue. The attacking team scored on the play, much to the disgust of the defending (and home) team’s fans.

As for indirect free kicks inside the penalty box (i.e., the 18), a kick awarded to the defending team is played exactly as it would be anywhere else. A kick awarded to the attacking team is also played in the normal fashion EXCEPT if it is awarded inside the goal box (the 6). In that case, the kick is taken from the point on the long line of the goal box perpendicular to the spot of the foul.

    i am a goalie, so i think i know most of these…
when the goalie gets knocked down, the offensive team has about 3 seconds before the ref should blow the whistle.
this gives enough time for the defensive team to get to the ball. also, if the goalie gets knocked down illegally by a member of the opposing team, the ref should blow the whistle right away.

when there is a high kick in the box by the defensive team, a penalty kick is awarded the the offensive team. if it is by the offensive team, then a free kick is awarded to the defensive team.
